Autism- a break for many Florida, US parents

http://www.flsenate.gov/session/index.cfm?BI_Mode=ViewBillInfo&Mode=Bills&SubMenu=1&Year=2008&billnum=2654

(SB 2654). This new bill is called Senate Bill 2654 (known as SB2654)
This billed was signed on 05/20 Approved by Governor; Chapter No. 2008-30

Effective April 1, the bill will require large insurance group polices to cover behavioral therapies for autistic children, up to $36,000 a year, with a lifetime maximum of $200,000

This is good news to many parents who struggle to pay for large medical bills to cover behavorial therapy.

As a mother of an autisitc child, I must admit therapy of all kinds does wonder for a child.

Pls check out the link to read more about this new bill signed in Florida USA.

If the insurance refuse to provide referral authoriztion for behvorial therapy- which some insurance will anyways. Ask to speak to a supervisor about your case and mentioned this bill. Most clerk may not be updated about the different bills avaialble for members, but a supervisor must know.

This for Florida residents only.

I have been sucessful in getting the insurance to pay for additional speech services that otherwise would have cost me $100-$150.00/ hour.

Good luck and don't let anyone tell to give up. Persistence pays off.

There is a similiar bill in California for Speech therapies AB88.(assembly bill 88)
